Gropius House

Located at 68 Baker Bridge Road, this was the family home of architect Walter Gropius (1883-1969), and was the first building he designed upon his arrival in the US in 1937.

It blends New England traditions with a contemporary means of expression and adapts Bauhaus principles of function and simplicity to New England's building materials and environment. Today, the house can be viewed with the family's furnishings made in Bauhaus workshops and brought from Germany, as well as objects acquired in this country.  The house is owned and operated by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (SPNEA).
