In 1970, the town purchased the Codman Farm from the Codman Trustees under the will of Dorothy Codman. The farmhouse, barns and approximately 19 acres, at the corner of Lincoln and Codman Roads, were part of Codman's Georgian country estate. The barns are of architectural interest. The oldest and smallest,
Barn A, has gunstock posts and is dated 1740. Barn B
annually houses some 5,000 bales of CCF hay harvested in Lincoln. Barn C was added
in the 1870s. All the Codman buildings are registered with the Society for the
Preservation of New England Antiquities and are on the National Register of Historic
Places. The twenty-fifth anniversary of CCF's founding was celebrated in June, 1998 by the building of a small barn in the lower barnyard. Funded by private sources, the frame was built by sixty-two volunteers at an old-fashioned "barn raising" to retain and promote Lincoln's agricultural heritage, CCF provides summer employment for a farm crew of 4 members. Managed and inspired by a year-round management team, it produces and sells Lincoln grown eggs, pasture- raised beef, lamb, pork and veal while promoting New England's agricultural heritage by using minor and rare breeds of farm animals for its stock. Field crops include sweet corn, hay and pumpkins. CCF also offers garden plots for summer tending. CCF is a focal point for farm-centered community
events. The CCF Farmside Feast and Harvest Fair are the highlights of fall in
Lincoln. Other community events include sheep shearing in Spring (April 15,
2006), a bi-annual gala auction
and dinner in the spring, and a summer concert. CCF encourages community participation in all its activities. The Codman Barn may be rented for weddings and other functions. For further information call the farm, 781-259-0456. Click Here to visit the new Codman Community Farm website
